Guide
Finding the right fit.
A good seal is the single biggest factor in how your earbuds sound. Bass disappears without it; ANC barely works. Here's how to choose, and how to check.
In-ear tip sizes
Every BlueTone earbud ships with four pairs of silicone tips (XS, S, M, L) plus a pair of memory-foam tips. Start with the medium tips — they fit most adult ears. If you hear the bass drop out when you walk or talk, go up one size.
| Tip size | Inner diameter | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 10 mm | Petite ear canals, many teenagers |
| S | 11 mm | Smaller adult ears |
| M (default) | 12 mm | Most adult ears |
| L | 13.5 mm | Larger adult ears |
| Foam | M / L | Maximum seal for ANC and isolation |
The 30-second seal check
- Insert the buds and play a track with strong bass.
- Cup your hands over your ears. If the bass gets noticeably louder, your seal is weak — try a larger tip.
- Now gently tug your earlobe down. The bass should not change. If it does, the tip is too small.
- Walk around. If music sounds hollow within a few steps, the buds are loose — go up a size.
In-ear, on-ear, over-ear, open-ear
- In-ear (Azure Buds, Meridian Mini, Echo IEM, Tide Wired): Best isolation, most portable. Choose if you commute or want ANC.
- On-ear (Lumen On-Ear): Lighter than over-ear, sits on the outside of the ear. Best for office and travel.
- Open-ear (Halo Open, Pulse Sport): Leaves the ear canal open — you stay aware of your surroundings. Best for running, cycling, calls.
- Speakers (Orbit Speaker): No fit considerations; just point at the listener.
